I am Dhanashree Gadiyar, immigrant artist from India living and working in New York for the last few years. I am an installation artist and a story teller. My work focuses on drawing, embroidery, handcutting paper and screenprinting which then come together as a large scale installation or indivisual portraits.
I love listening to the stories of immigrants and making work out of their experiences. I consider the stories of these working class immigrants sacred. My work is an attempt to touch the issues that affect them and often go unspoken and disappear with time. My work mainly touches issues of insecurity, dislocation, culture disconnectedness, language barriers, isolation, and the country's immigration policies and politics affecting their lives and their families.
